Our theatre was started in 1980 by Hollywood actress Marilyn Nash, Hollywood writer Roy Zehren, Carol McCabe, and Frank Castello in a little backyard performing one acts and reading poetry. Thanks to an impassioned poetry reading by Marilyn Nash, the group gained momentum in Oroville, creating enough buzz in the community to require seeking out an official building to call home.

 

The Birdcage Theatre was founded in 1984 as an all-volunteer community theater group. It is located at 1740 Bird Street, in a building that previously served as the offices for the Oroville Mercury-Register. The inaugural play, "Second Time Around", was directed by Roy Zerhen.
